Carbon Monoxide Testing
Carbon monoxide leaks are impossible to detect on your own, as the gas has no smell, colour, or sound, yet it can cause serious illness or even death.
Energy Safe Victoria recommend that gas appliances should be serviced and tested for carbon monoxide at least every two years, though annual checks are recommended for extra peace of mind and for older systems.
Testing for carbon monoxide leaks must be done by a trained and qualified professional using the correct detection equipment. This device must be calibrated every year andmeasures carbon monoxide levels in parts per million (ppm) to ensure your heater is operating safely.
If you’re renting, remember that under the Residential Tenancies Act, it’s your landlord’s responsibility to service and maintain any gas appliances in the property. Be sure to ask your landlord about the latest service and CO test.

If ever in doubt STOP using your appliance until it is checked by a professional.
